Are licences perpetual?

The Commercial and Personal licences are perpetual, and come with a year of upgrades. After that, the plugin will no longer update but will continue to work.

Old versions of Cursive will not be updated to work with newer versions of IntelliJ. This means that there may come a time when you want to upgrade IntelliJ and thus have to upgrade Cursive as well. Similarly, since Cursive only supports IntelliJ versions from the last year, you may at some point need to upgrade IntelliJ if you want to continue upgrading Cursive. But if you’re happy to stay on an older version of Cursive and an older version of IntelliJ, then you won’t have to upgrade if you don’t want to. Non-Commercial licences expire after 6 months, and can be renewed by simply requesting another one.

Does Cursive require an IntelliJ licence?

No, Cursive works fine with the free Community edition of IntelliJ.

What happens at the end of my upgrade period?

At that point, you will be notified and your IDE will stop updating automatically. If you wish to continue receiving updates at that point, you can upgrade your existing licence.

How much will it cost to upgrade my licence?

At the end of your upgrade period (one year after your initial purchase), the licence upgrade fee will be 50% of the original cost of the licence. That cost will gradually increase over the following year up to a maximum of 75% of the original cost of the licence one year later (two years after your initial purchase). If you upgrade after that point you will only ever pay a maximum of 75% of the original purchase price.

Why does the upgrade cost increase over time?

Because the longer you wait, the more new functionality will be included when you do upgrade. We think it's fair that this should cost a little more.

Is Cursive bundled with IntelliJ Ultimate or JetBrains Toolbox?

Unfortunately not - we're not associated with JetBrains so we can't offer this.

What is the licence install process?

When you place your order, you will be sent an email with the licence certificates for the licences you purchased. Each licence certificate is just a short piece of text which you can copy and paste into a dialog box either at startup or from Help→Register Cursive...

Can my Personal Licence be used on multiple machines or platforms?

Yes, as long as it's only you using it on those machines.

What happens if I upgrade to a new machine?

Just install your licence on your new machine.

I'm currently not making money with Clojure, but I might be soon. What should I do?

Get a Non-Commercial licence for now, and then get a Personal or Commercial licence when you start charging for your Clojure work.

Which payment methods do you offer?

Currently we only offer payment via credit card, PayPal or ACH/SEPA/BACS transfer. However note that because of how the licence fulfilment works, if you pay via bank transfer you will not receive the licences until the payment is received. If you are making a large order (60+ licences) you can pay via invoice/purchase order, contact us for details.

Do you offer volume discounts for larger Commercial licence orders?

Yes, we offer the same volume discounts as JetBrains:

These discounts should be calculated automatically during the purchase process, and will use the total number of licences we have sold to you (i.e. the discount is cumulative, not per purchase). If this discount is not correctly added, please ensure that you're using exactly the same name as you did for your previous purchases. Contact us if you're having problems with this.

Do you offer a licence server?

We do not currently offer a licence server, however if this would be useful to you let us know so we can judge the level of interest.

Do you offer site licences?

We do not currently offer site licences.

Can I see the EULAs for the different versions?

Of course, the EULAs are here: Commercial Licence, Personal Licence and Non-Commercial Licence.

Can I request a change to your EULA, or get you to sign additional licence terms?

Cursive is licenced as-is, we cannot offer one-off changes to our terms. Since we are a small company, the cost of legal compliance with custom contracts is prohibitive. For customers with large numbers of licences (60+) we can discuss changes, contact us to negotiate something.

I'm using Cursive for a class or lab of students, can I avoid them having to get individual Non-Commercial licences?

Yes, in that case you can get a single Non-Commercial licence for your class with your organisation's name, and install it on all the machines.

I heard you were going to offer a standalone IDE - will my licence work with that?

Yes, the same licence will work with the standalone IDE when we release it.

Can I get access to the source code if I buy a Commercial licence, or pay more to get it?

This is something that we're considering long term, but we don't offer it at the moment.
